New iPhone Virus Could Harm Jailbroken iPhones

It seems that there’s a new iPhone virus on the loose and this one is targeting jailbroken iPhones out there. The first one was almost a harmless worm which targeted jailbroken phones in Australia. The worm was programmed to scan the 3G IP ranges of Telus, Optus and Vodafone networks. As soon as those jailbroken iPhone were found the worm would change the wallpaper of the handset to Rick Asteley.

The worm we’re talking about today is based on the one we have just shown you. And you won’t like this second version worm. In fact you’re probably going to hate it as this worm, dubbed as “iPhone/Privacy.A” will send all your e-mail messages, SMS messages, calendar appointments, contacts, photos, music files, videos and any other data stored by your iPhone apps to a third party.

Of course in order for both worms to work your jailbroken has to have the default root password in place. Once you change that, you’re going to be safe for the time being.

iPhone Dropped Calls in New York? About 30% but Perfectly Normal

So how’s your iPhone working folks? Is AT&T still as crappy in your area as in the New York area? We don’t mean to be disrespectful but it looks like the average iPhone dropped calls is somewhere around 30% in New York. And that appears to be a genuine number provided by one of Apple’s own Geniuses. And said percentage seems to be fairly normal in Apple’s eyes. In fact it looks like people seem to think there’s something wrong with their iPhone when in fact the problem lies with AT&T. Go have your phone checked by the nice folks at the Genius Bar and you’ll find out exactly how many dropped calls you’ve had. Hopefully not more than 30% which is about 1 in 3 calls. Movies can be accessed via the mSpot website which accepts credit cards for payment. At the moment, they have 350 movies up for streaming from major film companies such as Paramount and Universal.

Individual movie rentals cost $4.99 and rental periods vary from movie to movie, though they are at least 24 hours and movies can be watched an unlimited number of times within the rental period.

AT&T Asks the FCC to Investigate Google Voice

Talk about an unforeseen turn of events! It looks like none other than AT&T is asking the FCC to investigate Google Voice. AT&T has been rumored to be the muscle behind Apple’s decision to keep Google Voice out of the App Store and now the carrier is fighting back. AT&T claims that Google Voice is responsible for blocking calls which is contrary to federal call-blocking regulations. All calls have to be permitted, no matter who you’d want to call. Google Voice is responsible for blocking calls to “adult-chat lines and conference call services, which charge expensive access fees.” We can deal with blocked conference calls but no adult-chat connections? FCC certainly has to look into that. After all anyone should be able to call adult-chat lines whenever they please!

I wonder how many adult-chat lines / conference call services AT&T has tried before finding this anomaly in Google’s Google Voice service. So let’s see what the FCC will have to say about all this. After all the same commission punished AT&T when they were doing some call blocking of their own a couple of years ago so Google might have some explaining to do. Will be back with more details about the AT&T-Google-Apple “love” triangle in the following weeks as this soap opera is getting more and more interesting to follow.

Apple to refresh plastic MacBooks?

The plastic MacBooks have long sat idle while the unibody MacBooks have gotten a refresh so it would only make sense that Apple is gearing up to launch fresh hardware.

Recent reports coming out of AppleInsider suggest that a plastic MacBook with a thinner design is currently being manufactured and could possibly hit store shelves within the next couple of weeks. Furthermore, they say they will also feature a built-in battery much like the ones found in their unibody brethren.
