RIM says Mac OS X Blackberry Desktop Manager out on Oct 2nd

Back in July we told you that RIM was gearing up to launch a Mac OS X version of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software at some point in the future and here we are still with no software.

Well, RIM has told us today that the Mac OS X BlackBerry Desktop Manager will in fact be made available this Friday, October 2nd. This will finally let Mac OS X users play nicely with their handsets, something the community has been asking for for way too long now.

Verizon getting BlackBerry Storm 2 close to October 25th?

What you see above is a screen shot of Best Buy’s product inventory database listing for the BlackBerry Storm 2’s Verizon dummy unit.

At first glance, this may not seem like anything special but once you see that Best Buy is going to stock the unit on October 25th leads us to believe that the actual fully functioning handset will be made available for purchase sometime soon after the 25th.

On another note, BGR has also apparently been told that the Storm 2 will be priced at $599 with no contract. Potential buyers fret not as once the carrier subsidization is factored in, it’s sure to be a lot lower.

TiVo for your BlackBerry

Owners of a BlackBerry can now use a TiVo application on the cellphone in order to set up the recording sessions of content from the TV. This application was released earlier today and its price is zero. In other words, this TiVo for BlackBerry application is free.

Unfortunately the application doesn’t include live streaming, but on the other hand subscribers can easily do a search and find more information related to the shows they want to record. On the technical side, the application must work with TiVo DVR Series 2 or 3, and the mobile device should be using the OS 4.2.0 and have the capability to browse. So, if you’ve got a BlackBerry and a TV show that you can’t miss - don’t want much further and use this fresh app.

BlackBerry Atlas Is Just a Curve 8900 in CDMA Clothing

We told you a long time ago that RIM was going to launch a certain BlackBerry called Atlas. Unfortunately for anyone anxious to see a brand new BlackBerry phone the Atlas is not new at all. The Atlas is just a Curve 8900 that’s able to make and receive calls in a CDMA network. The phone has leaked already but that doesn’t necessarily mean that RIM will launch it really soon. Who Does Bono Love Most? RIM or Palm?

Place your bets now folks! Today’s question is fairly simple: who do you think Bone (from U2 of course) loves most? Is it U2’s official sponsor, RIM, a company with great phones that happens to be pouring in lots of cash in this U2 partnership, or Palm, a company that’s fighting to rise from the dead, in which Bono happens to be currently investing? I know, the question is pretty difficult to answer, and it’s possible that even Bono doesn’t know the real answer.

While U2 is performing in front of thousands of people with RIM’s logo hanging around stadiums and U2 events, Elevation Partners is buying more Palm shares. The investor has purchased 2.2 million shares for $35 million. That means that EP is now controlling 42% of Palm and Bono has an important role in that as EP’s Managing Director and Co-Founder. Micro-USB Charging Standard Coming to Europe?

There’s good news for everyone charging their phones in Europe. It looks like there’s a phone charging standard coming to all those European handset owners. The European Commission has received today confirmation for that micro-USB charging socket from the most important names in the mobile business. Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, Motorola, Apple, LG, NEC, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung and Texas Instruments are all going to play ball and we should expect them to launch devices ready to be charged via a micro-USB charger sometime next year. On the long run the micro-UBS standard could be adopted by other markets too since CTIA, OMTP and the GSM Association also support it. Can’t wait for the day when I won’t hate myself for forgetting a certain phone charger! What are your thoughts on this?
