Motorola Ruby survives the axe; now called the V13

>> Thursday, October 1, 2009

This ain’t the first to rise from the dead and it definitely won’t be the last, but Motorola is definitely milking the RAZR line to death. The V13 (or the Ruby as it was previously called) recently got the approval stamp from the Bluetooth SIG indicating that the device is healthy and almost ready for a release into the world. The other specs seem to sync with what we heard before and the V13 will still come with a 2.2-inch QVGA internal display, CDMA and EV-DO connectivity, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with flash, and an external 2-inch touchscreen display, although the inclusion of Symbian UIQ 3.3 operating system is yet to be confirmed. No info on a release date as of now, but we’ll tell you when we find out.

Motorola Tao aka Sholes Caught on Camera

For the moment CLIQ is the hot Android phone coming from Motorola via T-Mobile. But fear not Moto fans, CLIQ has a worthy follower or so we suspect. The Tao or Sholes or however they decide to call it at launch, has been spotted in the wild running Android. What other OS would it run? As you can see the phone was running Google Maps at the time the picture was taken and you can also see it’s going to offer us a pretty impressive 1390mAh battery. We have no more details at this point in time but in Verizon we trust to launch the phone already!

Motorola CLIQ Available for Pre-order on October 19

>> Wednesday, September 30, 2009

You all know the drill folks! If you want a hot Android phone from T-Mobile you will have to patiently wait before you can pre-order it and then you’ll have to patiently wait for it some more until you actually get it.

Motorola’s CLIQ is the hot Android in question and in about 19 days from now you will be able to get pre-order it. The CLIQ should be available for $199 with a two-year contract which isn’t exactly the price we heard about a few weeks ago. The phone is certainly worth buying and you have plenty of time to decide whether you desperately want it or you can pass on it while waiting for something hotter. And if you do pre-order it, don’t expect to get it sooner than November!

Windows Mobile 6.5 to Power 30 New Windows Mobile 6.5 Phones This Year?

>> Sunday, September 27, 2009

Don’t look so surprised by that number! Windows Mobile 6.5 is coming and it looks like there are quite a few phone makers ready to roll phone capable or running Microsoft’s newest OS. And while we’re definitely thrilled to see that concept tablet, the Courier already, we can’t say we’re similarly interested in Windows Mobile 6.5. The OS is clearly a transition platform from the old Windows Mobile 6 to the future Windows Mobile 7.
Nonetheless manufacturers out there are ready to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 phones! Those 30 new handsets capable of running Microsoft latest OS will be made by HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Acer, Toshiba and HP. The phones will be released by the end of the year and we know a few carriers are definitely interested: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo, Softbank Mobile, SKT, Telestra and Telus.
Will you buy a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone?

Verizon Motorola Barrage V860 PTT phone gets imaged

The leaked Verizon roadmap we saw a couple of months back revealed the Motorola V860 to the world. We only had a name then, but now thanks to PhoneArena, we have pictures and specs too. The Motorola Barrage V860 will be one tough clamshell with with a black-rubberized texture for covering its body and supports PTT service. Hiding under its ruggedized body are sizeable internal/external displays, a 2-megapixel camera (a model without a camera will be available too), 2.5-mm headset jack, microSD expansion, and dedicated music controls on the handset’s front. No other details like a price or a release date were revealed, but we are here to give you those when Motorola/Verizon get official about the device.

Motorola Barrage coming to Verizon, specs leaked

It seems that the phone we saw pictured yesterday entitled the Motorola Barrage has been made official today for Verizon by way of a leaked spec sheet, pictured above.

As you can see, this sheet gives not only the handset’s specs (which we already knew about) but also the pricing and release date for the phone. According to said sheet, the Motorola Barrage will be made available in Verizon retail stores on November 16th, 2009 for $179.99 on a 2-year contract.

You amy be asking yourself how could anyone charge such a price for a flip phone and the answer is becasue of the materials that were used to make its ultra “rugged durable design”.

Motorola DEXT on Orange UK early next month?

>> Friday, September 11, 2009

Yesterday we let you know that the Motorola CLIQ would be coming to the UK sometime in 2010 as the Motorola DEXT. However, today we have some contrasting news as recent reports suggest that the Motorola DEXT will in fact be hitting Orange UK sometime early next month.

Furthermore, pre-orders are supposedly going to start sometime around September 22nd so if you’re on Orange UK and want to get yourself an android handset you should probably wait off until then.

Micro-USB Charging Standard Coming to Europe?

>> Wednesday, July 15, 2009

There’s good news for everyone charging their phones in Europe. It looks like there’s a phone charging standard coming to all those European handset owners. The European Commission has received today confirmation for that micro-USB charging socket from the most important names in the mobile business. Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, Motorola, Apple, LG, NEC, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung and Texas Instruments are all going to play ball and we should expect them to launch devices ready to be charged via a micro-USB charger sometime next year. On the long run the micro-UBS standard could be adopted by other markets too since CTIA, OMTP and the GSM Association also support it. Can’t wait for the day when I won’t hate myself for forgetting a certain phone charger! What are your thoughts on this?
