AT&T will launch campaign about texting and driving

AT&T likes to be considered a socially responsible company, and that is probably the reason why they are planning to launch a big campaign related to SMS texting and driving at the same time, which we all know is not good for your health and can be a disaster if you don’t pay attention. Anyhow, Randall Stephenson CEO of AT&T announced today what is the intended goal:

“Our goal is to send a simple, yet vital, message to all wireless users: don’t text and drive.”

The campaign will include some of the following topics:
- employee education, to prohibit the act of sending a text message while driving;
- defensive driving classes for employees that must do some driving while on the job;
- launching AT&T cellphones with a message like “don’t-text-and-drive”;
- public service announcements with famous people;
- online resources;

Samsung Instinct HD hands on video

Sprint just officially announced yesterday that they were gearing up to launch the Samsung Instinct HD on September 27th for $249.99. Now, considering the fact that it is priced so high when compared to the nature of the device you will most likely never get your hands on it.

Thankfully, a YouTube user was nice enough to give us a full hands on preview of the device showcasing features like the preloaded applications (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc) and the location of that HD video out port.

Walmart offers Palm Pre for $79.99

Looking to pick up a Palm Pre but still haven’t done so perhaps you should head over to Walmart as they are holding a great deal for the phone. As you can see from the above screenshot Walmart will now be offering the Palm Pre for just $79.99 with a new 2-year contract.

This compares with Sprint’s Palm Pre price tag of $149.99 after a 2-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate. $70 savings? Count me in.

Pioneer Releases First iPhone App

A couple of days ago, we had posted about the Pioneer in-dash navigation systems which could be integrated with the popular iPhone. Now, the actual app to be used for the AVIC-U310BT and AVIC-Z110BT in-dash navigation systems has been revealed and it comes in the person of the Avic Feeds. The app creates a link between Apple and the Pioneer in-dash navigation systems that allow anyone to find points of interest or search for destinations in advance via Bluetooth. Thanks to the Avic Feeds, iPhone owners no longer have to plot their course manually since the app can do it all for them.

iPhone App Allows you to Send Prayers to Rabbis

The iPhone has always been known to be a reliable communication device and this time, one app can put you directly in touch with God. The app is called the “Send a Prayer” app which allows users to enter personal prayers and send them to rabbis in Jerusalem for placement at the Wailing Wall. This app coincides with the coming Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur.

At the same time, the app allows iPhone owners to share their personal prayers with friends via email and soon on major social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The app is available at the iTunes store for $0.99 and was made by Chabad.org.

Motorola Barrage coming to Verizon, specs leaked

It seems that the phone we saw pictured yesterday entitled the Motorola Barrage has been made official today for Verizon by way of a leaked spec sheet, pictured above.

As you can see, this sheet gives not only the handset’s specs (which we already knew about) but also the pricing and release date for the phone. According to said sheet, the Motorola Barrage will be made available in Verizon retail stores on November 16th, 2009 for $179.99 on a 2-year contract.

You amy be asking yourself how could anyone charge such a price for a flip phone and the answer is becasue of the materials that were used to make its ultra “rugged durable design”.

Google Sync updated to support Gmail

Currently, Google Sync is only able to keep your Calender and Contacts updated, effectively leaving Gmail in the dark. Luckily, it was recently announced that the service will now allow for Gmail syncing as well, if you have an iPhone or Windows Mobile handset, that is.

AT&T sends out iPhone MMS text notification

Well folks, what we told you earlier this month is finally happening; the iPhone is in fact getting MMS capabilities starting on Friday, September 25th. The reason we bring you this announcement is because AT&T has just sent out the above text message letting us know that they will be disabling the current method of viewing MMS messages to make way for the real thing.

Now here’s where everyone points and laughs at us iPhone owners because they’ve been able to send MMS for ages.

Create a temporary phone number with inumbr

Maybe you don’t want that one person that has barged into your life to know your private phone number? Could be a salesperson or a co-worker who you aren’t that impressed with, but have to get in contact with. Check out inumbr.

inumbr is a free online service that gives US users the ability to set up a unique phone number, have it forwarded to any number within the US and then have it set to expire without a trace when finished with it. The unique inumbr’s are never reused, and can be extended if longer terms are required. Users choose from a list of 22 area codes from major US cities like Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, select an expiry date and set a number that it should be forwarded to. When the term is up, the number is expired from the system, and never used again for any other user. If you wish to use the number at a later date, you can log into the inumbr system and reactivate it.

As we are becoming more and more mobile and security conscious, the desire for these types of services grows. A phone number can now be given out at will, with security and privacy remaining intact. Google Voice is a major player in this arena. A somewhat similar service, they allow for a unique number with voice mail to forward to other numbers at will, creating a masked or unidentified private number that can be used to give out to 3rd parties. inumbr makes this process simpler with the ability to cut off and reactivate numbers as desired.
