Maemo 5 will remind you of webOS since it uses a card-like view of what’s happening with your phone. The OS will support both GSM and VoIP calls and all those calls will be neatly logged which means you’ll be able to quickly call back your friends using your VoIP program of choice. When it comes to messaging capabilities, you can expect threaded SMS support but there’s no MMS availability. AT&T will certainly enjoy this feature or better said lack of it. As you can see the OS can still be improved as other issues have been spotted too. There’s no Google Calendar sync option, the mobile browser is slow and Flash support, although there, isn’t great. The Rover will slow down if you run too many apps so better shut a few of them down while you aren’t using them. The Map app will make you want to get Ovi Maps and the music player is limited in features.
There you have it folks, a hands-off sneak preview of Maemo 5. But we definitely expect you to tell us exactly how the phone performs for you in case you do decide to get an N900.

The Constellation F we reported on a few days is actually the Ayxta, which will be the first clamshell from the Hampshire, UK-based Nokia subsidiary. The handset features two new services that might become regulars on future Vertu phones, the Concierge and Select City Brief services. The Concierge gives the elite customer a direct line to a customer care rep who can address any questions or demands that are put forward, with just a single button press; the Select City Brief, on the other hand, uses the onboard GPS (?) to automatically change time to the local timezone and get the lowdown on the happening places in the vicinity. Both these features are something we can live without and as for some real specs, the Constellation Ayxta features 3G support, a 3-megapixel camera with integrated flash, and microSD support for up to 8GB. Available in Europe starting at $7000 apiece, which is actually lesser than some of the other Constellation handsets, but still high enough to boost a rich man’s ego.

Read more...Just earlier this month we notified you of the impending AT&T release for nokia phone & the Nokia Mural. Well, it seems that before the device even got a chance to take off, AT&T is halting all sales.
Unfortunately, this delay is until further notice (which could mean forever) due to the production model of the device unable to work over AT&T’s 3G network. As for the stock that’s already out there, BGR reports that retailers have been ordered to send the phone back to headquarters for a software update.
Those of you discouraged about this news need not be as there are countless 3G clamshell alternatives out there.

We’ve seen yesterday that the Nokia N97 is not exactly a waterproof phone although it can deal pretty good with water. If you want a waterproof phone you should wait for Nokia’s first, the 3720 which is coming out this September. The phone is dustproof too which makes it suitable for almost any environment. And if you’re wondering the 3720 is shock resistant too so you can go ahead and drop it anywhere and it survive easily. We don’t have any specs and pricing details just yet but we’re not expecting this 3720 to surprise us with smartphone features.

We can honestly say that we knew this was bound to happen. The minute Intel and Nokia shook hands thinking at the future of mobile devices, people must have started wandering when the first Nokia laptop should arrive. And Nokia is on track with its laptop plans for this year. Together with Intel it will launch an Atom-based netbook sometime in the third quarter of the year, according to the Commercial Times.
The Nokiabook will probably be made by Compal and Quanta, two companies well versed in the netbook-making business. Compal will go even further and create a Qualcomm Snapdragon Nokia smartbook but we don’t have any specific details for any of those future Nokia devices just yet.

The world definitely has no shortage of netbooks with the majority of them running different versions of Windows or Linux. Android, however, has been shown to be very capable of holding its own when booted up on a netbook.
Nokia seems to think that the operating system is reading for primetime as analyst Daniel Amir from Lazard Capital Markets was quoted to have said the folowing:
In our conversations with ODMs, we have confirmed that Nokia is planning to enter the netbook market with a Google Android, ARM-based netbook that would be sold at carriers. Considering this market is dominated by the PC players, we believe Nokia could face an uphill battle to succeed in this market.
Take this with a grain of salt, even though Mr. Amir claims its cofirmed, until we hear official word from Nokia.

The most important cell phone makers out there have already announced 12-megapixel camera phones or are on the verge of doing so. We already know that Samsung, LG or Sony Ericsson will offer their customers a 12-megapixel shooter and Nokia will not want to miss any of that action.
The Finnish company will launch a 12-megapixel camera phone by the end of the year. There’s no official news from Nokia about the new phone but the rumors say it will feature a Carl Zeiss lens capable of optical zoom. That optical zoom will definitely convince some people to pick this 12-megapixel camera phone over that the competition has to offer.
