LG unveils the GD510 Pop

>> Thursday, October 1, 2009

Still heady from the Cookie’s 7-million run, LG seems to have learned that another mid-range touchscreen device is just another way to make more headway in the market. Enter GD510 Pop, a new touchscreen device that wraps a sleek brushed aluminum case around a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display, a 3mpx camera, 8GB of internal memory, and a solitary multipurpose button. There is no indication whether this will get the same widget-based Flash UI as the Cookie, but with a release slated for mid-October in the European continent, we will not have to wait long to find that out and other details like its pricing.

LG Burst Projector Cellphone Concept

>> Wednesday, September 30, 2009

I have to admit that the cellphone in the picture here is certainly an interesting concept. The LG Burst is a projector cellphone which could replace current netbooks in certain ways. As you can see the phone acts as a simple touchscreen phone but things can get a lot more complicated if you so desire. The Burst should come equipped with features like motion sensors and pico projectors which would be able to lay in front of you a screen comparable in size to the displays found in current or future netbooks and tablets. Other features would include a touch-sensitive keyboard, support for video conferences, HD capabilities and various media editing tools, and last but no least, features that would help the deaf and hearing impaired make the most of the phone. We have no prices and availability dates just yet as this is just a concept for now.

Verizon’s LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 Coming on 18 October?

If rumors are true, Verizon Wireless may be coming out with another mobile phone with the LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 this October. Originally posted by Dax a couple of days ago, the LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 carries an entirely different look compared to the much publicized LG Chocolate BL40. Most of the striking features were already covered in that post although one rumored addition was the presence of a drum pad and keyboard. With this add-on, people can whip up their own beats!

The features laid out for the LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 are indeed tempting to consider. And most of the features can be finally verified come October 18 once Verizon officially rolls out the phone. No word on the retail price though.

KT to Launch LG Lilac and Samsung Prism

Korean customers will be able to select two new handsets from KT in the near future. One is the LG Lilac, but the most interesting one is the Samsung Prism, a WiMAX-enabled phone which could find its way to Sprint soon.

The Prism will offer WCDMA, WiFi and WiMAX connectivity which means you’ll definitely be able to enjoy decent data speeds. We’ll be waiting for more details about the Prism once KT, or Sprint, will announce it.

The LG Liliac is the other phone coming from KT, and although it’s not WiMAX enabled it will do just fine in a 3G network. Just like the Prism, the Liliac remains secret for now, but we’ll be waiting for more specs to emerge soon.

LG KG376 adds style to affordability

There isn’t much underneath to look for in the KG376, but the saying “beauty is only skin deep” can take a hike when it comes this latest clamshell from LG. The KG376’s major features may consist of just an FM radio and a 128×128 pixel internal display, but the purple hue with the pink accent is all that is needed, keeping in mind that LG is definitely targeting young girls and women with this flipper. The only other feature that stands out is the external LED light (in lieu of an external display), which will twinkle up every time the lady in question gets a call or a text message. Details on pricing and availability are scarce right now, but we will keep you posted.

Micro-USB Charging Standard Coming to Europe?

>> Wednesday, July 15, 2009

There’s good news for everyone charging their phones in Europe. It looks like there’s a phone charging standard coming to all those European handset owners. The European Commission has received today confirmation for that micro-USB charging socket from the most important names in the mobile business. Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, Motorola, Apple, LG, NEC, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung and Texas Instruments are all going to play ball and we should expect them to launch devices ready to be charged via a micro-USB charger sometime next year. On the long run the micro-UBS standard could be adopted by other markets too since CTIA, OMTP and the GSM Association also support it. Can’t wait for the day when I won’t hate myself for forgetting a certain phone charger! What are your thoughts on this?

Nokia to Launch 12-Megapixel Camera Phone

The most important cell phone makers out there have already announced 12-megapixel camera phones or are on the verge of doing so. We already know that Samsung, LG or Sony Ericsson will offer their customers a 12-megapixel shooter and Nokia will not want to miss any of that action.

The Finnish company will launch a 12-megapixel camera phone by the end of the year. There’s no official news from Nokia about the new phone but the rumors say it will feature a Carl Zeiss lens capable of optical zoom. That optical zoom will definitely convince some people to pick this 12-megapixel camera phone over that the competition has to offer.

LG Going for Second Place in the Mobile Business

LG is holding the third spot after Nokia and Samsung when it comes to market share but the manufacturer has big plans for the future. By 2012 LG plans to get that second spot currently held by Samsung. It’s going to be a fierce fight since Samsung is a force to be reckoned with in the mobile business.

In order to accomplish its plans, LG will launch a “Black Label” phone before the end of the year meant to compete against the iPhone. LG is also working on the third version of the Prada III and other smartphones are expected too. Windows Mobile and Android will be the chosen OS for these future smartphones so we’re definitely interested to see LG’s future line up.

What do you think? Will LG be able to conquer that sweet second spot position?
